There are long shadowsthere are long shadows cast on them and tears that form rivers that come winding through the centuries to lay at our feet
from barbarians and armies who rode them into wars not of their creation to loggers who cleared their forests to amusement for crowds of parents and excited children to tourists who wanted to ride like kings of the jungle we have all been there broken backs and spirits and crushed legs to blown away feet by land mines from our left over wars and the tears that fall hardly scratch our conscience they certainly don't wound us red eyed by flash from happy snapper tourists until they see no more but who would know from a discarded photo or your Facebook page gradually we put down the amusement admission tickets and turn away the rides trying to save something of our conscience by signing up to sanctuary parks pushing back hard on the long shadows and finally removing the hook we create a clearing for the damaged and disabled replacing laughter and ego with compassion to see these great beings able to capture back some freedom even if rather an illusion... |

Thirty three thousand miles and more
Travel ResourcesI have kept a lot of travel resources/ideas on my flipboard so if you are looking for inspiration click on the button below

About usWe are a three members of a large family , Rachel, Dean and Fred who are venturing around the world. Fred is 10 years old and we are a bit older. Poppy, Daisy and Barney and our recent addition Buddy (grandchild) are sadly not coming with us as they have responsible things to do back in the UK but we hope are following us closely.
We are travelling around the world in 6 months. Thats is probably a tall order and there are many bits we will not see. We have estimated we will do 33,000 air miles at least plus whatever we do by car, train or bus. We have set out to visit 5 continents and at least 12 countries. We had talked about it and bored my older kids with the plans to the point at which we had to do it or lose face. We dedicate this trip to #always planning. |
WelcomeWe have that opportunity to do what many people can only dream about. We hope that if you have arrived here that maybe you are doing the same as us and looking for fellow travellers to pick up tips or are looking for inspiration for your own travel adventure. I hope we can deliver on some of that. For our family and friends we will try to entertain but not be too laboured in our stories. Just look at the pictures if you can't be bothered with the words (Barney). Hopefully there will also be vlogs.
